Over the weekend I was trying to get the golf cart working again when I realized, I have little to no idea what I was doing.
What I did beforehand; the battery was inside, periodically on a float charger, and before winter I put some fuel stabilizer in the gas. Now, the system for oil doesn’t work properly, so we’ve been putting the oil in the gas tank which seems to do the trick.
So the other day I put the battery in, and started it up, and I could hear the engine spinning, but it didn’t move. I didn’t put new gas or oil in it, because if I could get away with doing that, I would.
So I’m thinking maybe get some new gas and more oil, and make sure the battery is fully charged. I believe that’s the right track, correct? Anything I might of missed?
Also, someone on FB mention something about new spark plugs too. I think grandpa might of changed them last summer, I’m asking him to double check.

If you hear it running and it’s not going anywhere, it’s probably not the gas. I’m assuming it’s belt driven, so I’d check that first. Maybe it’s not engaging or the belt is in rough shape/missing somehow.

Heh, worth a shot to investigate, thanks! Will have to update when I get a chance too.

Belt might be worn out or a bit rusty :) Im not too knowledgeable about the gas powered carts, but since the engine and pully is always spinning, there should be a clutch that engages the rear differental. Possibly the clutch is sticking or slipping too.

Thanks, I'll check that.

If it’s spinning but not actually running, check the points. I assume this is like the Harley Davidsons, a pretty simple beast. Download a troubleshooting manual and have at it.

The torque converter may be frozen. The part that pinches the drive belt when RPMs rise. You should be able to actuate it by hand in and out. After they sit these converters can freeze up. If frozen (1st remove belt) try bangin the crap out of it with a dead blow mallet. Resist removing it from the motor if possible cause it’s a bitch to reseat. Checking belts for dry rot and wear are also good ideas. Belts for these are not that expensive. As for the fuel system make sure you replace fuel filter or add one if you can’t find it. The Fuel pumps on these can lose efficiency after time as well. But no worries as they are not expensive to replace. Remind me of the manufacturing year again? Need to pin down exactly what motor config you have then shopping for parts is a breeze. Buggies unlimited has parts and an associate forum to seek all you need to know about getting this jewel back in running order. I use anything from 25-1 up to 100-1 ashless or synthetic (recommend Klotz) as long as it’s mixed properly. Rear brake on mine is seized at the moment may have to go to the garage tonight for some tinkering. Again best of luck!!!

GX444 is the engine designation also ( on forums) referred to as PGO 4. Using this you can shop for direct parts replacements.

Cartaholics forum may be a great place to start up a thread about your cart and any associated issues you may have with refurbishment. Its funny there is no ego on most cart forums so you get the straight answers immediately and they seem to be vested in you getting your wheels turning again!
